Armed Robbery at Eureka Gas Station, Suspect at Large
Eureka Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a Broadway gas station at knifepoint Saturday evening, the third commercial robbery in the city this quarter.
A man armed with a knife robbed a gas station on Broadway in Eureka Saturday evening. No one was injured. The suspect remains at large.
The robbery occurred at 7:42 p.m. at the Valero station at 2215 Broadway. According to Eureka Police Department spokesperson Sergeant Brian Stephens, a male suspect entered the store, displayed a knife, and demanded cash from the register.
The clerk complied. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot heading south on Broadway.
Suspect description
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches, thin build, wearing a dark hoodie, dark pants, and a black face covering. He appeared to be between 25 and 35 years old.
EPD officers responded within four minutes. A K-9 unit tracked the suspect’s trail south on Broadway to the intersection with Del Norte Street. The trail ended there. Officers believe the suspect entered a vehicle.
Surveillance footage from the gas station has been collected. EPD said the footage is being reviewed but has not been released publicly.
Third this quarter
This is the third armed robbery of a commercial business in Eureka since January 1. A convenience store on Fourth Street was robbed at gunpoint on January 18. A liquor store on Harris Street was robbed with a knife on February 9. No arrests have been made in either case.
EPD Chief Steve Watson acknowledged the pattern in a statement Sunday.
“Three armed robberies in under three months is concerning,” Watson said. “We are dedicating additional patrol resources to the Broadway and Fourth Street commercial corridors during evening hours.”
Watson said detectives have not established a connection between the three incidents. The suspect descriptions differ across the cases.
Clerk unharmed
The gas station clerk, a 43-year-old Eureka resident, was not physically injured. He declined to speak with media. The station’s owner said the business would remain open and that additional security measures were being considered.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact EPD at (707) 441-4060 or the anonymous tip line at (707) 441-4373.
